about artists
Daniel Skála (1981) is a cimbalom player, composer, choirmaster and conductor. As a cimbalom player, he regularly collaborates with the world's leading artists and orchestras (Ensemble Modern, London Philharmonic Orchestra, Ostrava Banda, etc.). In recent years he has also been intensively involved in compositional methods of controlled aleatorics and conceptual programming. This has also been the basis for the full-length projects Dreaming, Conversations, and the non-opera Red Nose. Currently he is mainly engaged in concert activity and composition. He also teaches cimbalom at the Janáček Conservatory in Ostrava and several subjects at the University of Ostrava. In 2024 he also founded the contemporary music ensemble Ensemble O. He also regularly organises courses called Creative Improvisation, focusing on the basics of improvisation and creative development, and with the artist Tomáš Volkmer, Re:Kreace, in which they combine music and visual arts with drama education.
